Mistakes many bloggers make

It seems fitting that this problem of “100% Organic” be related to blog optimization since I’m discussing at Search Engine Strategies on the subject of Search Engine Optimization through Feeds and Blogs. Even the top SEOs make errors with their sites (and yes, I make some of them also).

Enabling title labels to be auto-created (from the post title, class name, etc.). Don’t simply let the site software reuse class name or the post title with your site’s name tacked on in the front. Why? Because a perfect post name is rarely a perfect name label.

How would you achieve this? If your site is powered by WordPress, then you certainly can use my WordPress plugin called Search Engine Optimization Name Label. It offers a mass that is “ edit” administrative interface for making volume edits across hundreds or dozens of pages simultaneously.

If you don’t have time or resources and want to continue with auto-created title labels, you should at an absolute minimum hand code the title label on the home page, and then on the remaining part of the site spot the site name at the ending of the title label as opposed to at the start (or remove it completely). This will give you distinctively centered title labels.

Letting pages get

Some pages shouldn’t be let into the search indices since they’re either fundamentally content-less (like the “E-Mail this page” form or “Enlarged picture” pages) or as they’re substantively much like other pages (like the “Printer-friendly” pages).

Having multiple homes for your website. Does your site have what search engine geeks refer to ” problems that are cannibalization? If you’re able to get by multiple URLs to a page, then the response is “Yes.

Not using “ excerpts that are elective ” to minimize duplicate content. In WordPress the discretionary excerpt on the Write Post form is where you are able to define alternative copy to show everywhere but on the permalink page, although this may be understood by other names in other site platforms.

Not using rel=nofollow to steer the stream of link increase. Some internal links aren’t quite helpful because they’ve best anchor text (e.g. “Permalink” and “Opinions”). Link increase is only leaked by some external links to nobody’s advantage, for example “Digg this” links.

Their archives are organized by most sites by month in place of by key word. Because the anchor text of links is so crucial that you Search Engine Optimization that’s a pity, yet these date-based archives have a tendency to have horrible amount-established anchor text.

Arranging your site into groups is a step in the right path, but executing labeling and tag clouds across your site is a considerably more search engine strategy that is best. Then you certainly can dump your date-based rel=nofollow hierarchy, or at least all those date.

No equilibrium in key word focus on group pages. Then your class pages can be of great Search Engine Optimization advantage when groups are chosen in part – because of keyword research. But in order to actually give the greatest chance at competing for their targeted key words to those class pages, the pages need stability inside their key word focus.

Nevertheless, in many instances the key word focus jumps around the place as new places make it into that group page and old posts fall off. Using “tacky” posts which remain on top of class page no matter the age of that post will give you the chance to to integrate key word-rich opening copy into the pages.

Best URLs

The ideal URLs include a minimal variety of slashes and useful, popular key words, with no question marks. Make sure you alter your “Permalink Options” to use rewritten URLs rather than the default option of post IDs if using WordPress. If using TypePad or Movable Type, from using the default option of change underscores to hyphens as hyphens are favored from Google’s point of view.

TypePad and Movable Type additionally often truncate URLs mid-key word. Notice the URL was truncated and the works “ “social media” and hospitality” were lost.

Just one RSS feed, and it’s not optimized. Each type on your own website should have its own class, so that folks who are mainly interested in no more than one subject can subscribe to – and syndicate – the group-specific feed. Same thing applies if you’ve label pages hosted on your own site.

Label-specific feeds are excellent for Search Engine Optimization and for users. Optimized RSS feeds are ones that are “total text” not outline feeds, have more than only ten items (e.g. 20 or 50), have keyword-loaded item names, feature your brand name in the item names, contain important keywords in the website title, and have a powerful website description.

Offering best podcasts

Setting your RSS feed’s URL or your site’s URL on a domain name you don’t possess. Does your site’s URL feature blogspot.com, typepad.com, wordpress.com, etc.? This is a catastrophe waiting to occur. What occurs if you need to go to service provider or another website platform? You won’t have the ability to 301 redirect. You’d be in a pickle if you needed to shift to another service from Feedburner.

Using anchor text that is best when linking. It’s not unusual for bloggers to use “ formerly” or “ here” or similar best phrases as anchor text within post copy. Resist the temptation and use key words that are important instead.
